Dungeon Picnic Level Up Using Star Shards
Random skill picks, Cost 1 heroines, Starting Mana at Cost 3, and SHARD 03.
Dungeon Picnic does not give each heroine a private XP bar. Leveling is a menu labeled Level Up Using Star Shards, a printed cost, and a random skill or option you either take or skip. This page is the spend briefing for that screen in the limited-time demo that started on 6 September 2026: first area, four playable characters, and no save transfer into the product version, which remains to be announced. Play is single-player. Developer and publisher is Lapismine; the Steam app is 3736800.
If you have not installed, start with Getting Started. Demo length, streaming notes, and the no-transfer rule live in the demo guide. How a four-slot picnic actually uses these spends is party building. A paper lineup lives on the party planner. Published skill names, not invented ones, sit on the skills ranking.
StarShard on the HUD, Aether on the event HUD
StarShard (also written Star Shards) is the Level Up currency. It is the pile the HUD shows when you are asking whether you can afford a row. Aether is a separate purse on the event HUD. They are not interchangeable. Filling StarShard by taking Battle + Rewards nodes is an exploration bet; spending those shards is a Level Up bet. Pickup logic belongs in exploration. This page is only the spend.
Open Level Up from the same command list that holds Equipment, Set Skill, Item, Status, Formation, and System. On a gamepad, X is Confirm / Get / Level Up / Select Slot. Circle is Back and Toggle Details. Square also Toggle Details. Mouse wheel scrolls the offer list. None of those prompts change the rule: the offer is random, the cost is printed, and a mis-confirm is a real spend.
Official X posts in August 2026 showed a pixel-art animated level-up. You pick a random skill or option. The animation is flavor. The numbers are the system. Do not tap Confirm because the sparkle looked like a trailer.
Character rows at Cost 1
A Level Up screenshot lists four character rows at Cost: 1: Astrologia, Apothecary, Kannagi, and Aries Knight. Those four are the limited demo party. The character roster is the index for names that appear on other screens.
Cost 1 is cheap compared with Starting Mana. Cheap is not free. A Cost 1 character option is a body in Formation and whatever Set Skill rows that heroine already holds. It is not a promise of a named skill this wiki has not seen. Kannagi’s public identity is a fox-eared shrine maiden from a mystical clan who uses a purification wooden sword against evil gods. Aries Knight matches the maid-knight look in press coverage. This page will not invent skill names for them. If Level Up offers a random skill for either heroine, take the printed name on the row.
Astrologia’s published kit is already large: Hellfire Comet, Blizzard Comet, and Binary Star at 1 MN, Unlimited Meteor at 2 MN, Lunar Eclipse at 1 MN, Stellar Exploit with an infinity icon, and a posted passive that reduces cooldowns on Break. Apothecary’s published kit is Counter Heal at 2 MN (cooldown 6, all allies, Heal.ELM, 50% heal), Heal All at 2 MN, and Poison Injection at 1 MN. A Cost 1 row on those two is usually about deepening a kit you already understand, not about unlocking a fifth picnic member.
Harvester and Samurai are roster knowledge. They are not extra demo slots you can buy with Cost 1. If a later product version adds them to this menu, this page will need a new screenshot. Until then, do not spend shards as if Mercy Scythe or a sailor-uniform katana is sitting behind the next Cost 1 click.
Starting Mana at Cost 3 versus those ranks
Starting Mana sits on its own row at Cost: 3. That is three times a character option. The party shares one Mana (MN) pool. A 1 MN comet and a 2 MN heal drink from the same tank. Hitting a weakness inflicts Break, which grants an extra turn called ReAct, improves mana recovery, reduces mana costs, and raises crit chance when you attack the broken foe. Enemies can ReAct too. None of that loop works if the tank is empty at the first command.
Buy Starting Mana when the last fight ended with an unpayable Counter Heal or Heal All. Buy a Cost 1 character option when Formation needed a body or Set Skill had an empty row. Do not buy Starting Mana because the number 3 looks like a power rank. It is a price. Character Cost 1 is also a price, not a rarity star.
Shared MN is why party building and Level Up are the same subject. If you dump shards into Astrologia until Unlimited Meteor is always tempting, you still need 2 MN left for Apothecary. Meteor then sets all skills on cooldown. A fat meteor kit with a starved tank is a highlight reel, not a picnic. Compare published skills on the skills ranking before you treat a random offer as an upgrade.
SHARD 03 rows and the right to skip
Individual rows can show labels such as SHARD 03. That is a printed cost on that option, not a third currency. Read it the same way you read Cost 1 and Cost 3: can the picnic afford this, and does it fill the hole from the last fight?
Because the offer is random, a SHARD 03 skill you do not understand is often worse than skipping. Skip is a legal Level Up action. The next event can pay more StarShard. A wipe will delete the skill anyway. Spending every shard the moment the menu opens is how you arrive at a later fight with no Starting Mana and a random row you cannot pay to use.
Toggle Details before Confirm. Read MN, cooldown, and targeting when the row is a skill. If the row is Starting Mana, the targeting is the whole picnic. If the row is a Cost 1 heroine, the targeting is Formation. If the row is a mystery option with SHARD 03 and no published name this wiki can cite, write the printed name down. Do not invent a second name for it.
How Level Up feeds a four-slot picnic
Party building is the reason Level Up exists. The four demo names share MN, share the route, and share the wipe. Star Shards are the budget that turns that share into a kit. Use the party planner to write one job per name: Break, heal, purification pressure, frontline. Then accept or skip Level Up rows against that line, not against a wish for roster members the demo will not add.
Set Skill is where a random skill becomes a ready-versus-cooldown problem. Equipment is a different menu; do not spend StarShard expecting a legendary artifact. Formation still decides who drinks first. Status confirms HP, ATK, DEF, HEAL, SPD, Hit, Crit, and Crit DMG so you are not guessing whether a Cost 1 pick changed anything.
A wipe loses skills and equipment. The next run randomizes finds. Shard planning is per picnic, not per Steam account. The limited demo will not transfer a perfected Level Up history into the upcoming product version. Steam Next Fest from 19 October 2026 is a second look at the first-area slice, not a migration date.
A spend script for the first area
After two fights, open Level Up once. If you could not pay a 2 MN heal, take Starting Mana at Cost 3. If a Set Skill row was empty, take a Cost 1 character option or a random skill you can actually fire. If the offer is a SHARD 03 row that does not match the hole, back out with Circle. On the route, remember StarShard is the HUD pile for this menu and Aether is not. When the picnic ends, audit impulse SHARD 03 taps the same way you audit empty MN.
Official storefront context is the Steam store page. Input prompts live in the controls guide. Calendar notes sit under updates. The guides hub routes the rest.
Treat every Level Up confirm as a receipt, not as a gacha pull you are owed. Write the printed cost, the heroine it touched, and the hole you hoped to fill. If Starting Mana at Cost 3 would have paid Counter Heal, that is the next shard target. If a Cost 1 row only duplicated a job you already had, skip the sparkle next time. Random skill picks from the August 2026 animation are still random; the picnic gets stronger when you refuse a SHARD 03 row that does not match the last empty MN tank.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for demo runs, ReAct combat, and party building.
What currency does the Level Up menu spend?
StarShard, also written Star Shards, shown on the HUD. Aether is a separate event-HUD purse and does not pay this screen. Pickup bets are in exploration; spend rules are this page.
Why is Starting Mana Cost 3 when the four heroines are Cost 1?
The party shares one MN pool. Cost 1 buys a character option for Astrologia, Apothecary, Kannagi, or Aries Knight. Cost 3 raises the tank every skill drinks from. See party building.
What does a SHARD 03 row mean?
It is a printed cost on that random option, not a third currency. Toggle Details, then take it only if it fills the hole from the last fight. Skipping is legal. Compare published names on the skills ranking.
Do Level Up picks survive a wipe or transfer out of the demo?
No. A wipe deletes skills and equipment, and the next run randomizes finds. Demo saves do not carry into the product version, which is still to be announced. Rules sit in the demo guide.
Is the Level Up offer a fixed list?
No. Official X posts in August 2026 showed a pixel-art animated level-up where you pick a random skill or option. Plan the spend on the party planner before you Confirm.
